My First Omni Test

Post  Jazzooo on Wed Feb 04, 2009 3:47 pm

Hi--I'm normally a jazz composer and player, but I've got a burning desire to make something that doesn't sound so much like...well, like me! I bought Omnisphere at NAMM, installed it and within 30 minutes I created this live improvisation using the Smoked Lap Steel patch. My improvisations can tend to sound like compositions, and this is a good example.

If a techno-dweeb like me can pull this off in one take, having never used a soft synth in my life, that's saying a lot about OS. Smile

Hi Doug,
thats a very cool piece. Thanks for sharing it.
I like how you take unexpected turns at familiar looking routes.
Keeps the listeners on their feet.

The Lapsteel is an awesome sound. Very dreamy and evocative and yet so down2earth and playable.

keep em coming!

best
Hans

Hey Jazzooo.

I have to say I was quite touched, inspired and moved by this outstanding improvisation.

And it's nice to hear it done on a single instrument.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I'll look forward to hearing much more from you.

Thank you both for the kind words. I'm listening again and still enjoying it myself. I've got a really fun project coming up that should force me dive deeper into OS. An excellent painter named Juan Ezcurdia lives down here in Mexico, and I'm a huge fan. I want one of his large paintings for the new studio I'm building, and until the economy tanked I was going to buy one. Now, it had become something I hoped to do one day in the future.

Well, I was at his gallery and I told him it would be a while before I could buy one, and he said "Maybe we can make a deal!" Seems he has a wonderful 3 minute DVD that he wants to send to galleries but has been afraid since he took music without permission for the soundtrack. He said "Maybe you could use one of your old pieces of music to replace it and I'll give you a painting." Hah--he doesn't know me very well--I love composing with an objective in mind, and told him I'd do all new music...and he's going to paint me an all new painting!

I should start next weekend.
