NEW COMPUTER

Post  sspclud777 on Tue Jul 14, 2009 12:35 am

Very Happy Hello fellow Omnispherians:
I wanted to thank the ones who helped me with the initial problems
and questions that I had when I first joined the site last month.
Thanks to Hans, HenriKK and Yairhol for responding with valuable
information.
So after installing the program in my old XP Dell and always reaching
the limits of the CPU.......and not being able to use much arpeggiation
due to the small single CPU.......I went ahead and took the plunge.

Here is the system that Dell is building right now:::::::

Dell Studio XPS 435 with the i7 processor (quad core) @ 2.66MHz
8 GB ram DDR3
1 TB hard drive
23" HD monitor
dual drives....DVD rom and a DVD RW

Dell gave a super deal on this and I should have it by the end of the
month. Then the long process of customizing it and loading all of the
software......I can't wait....this should be fun. A dedicated computer
mainly for Omnisphere.

Just thought I'd share this info......if anybody has any comments or
feedback.....please post it.
Once again Thanks guys
Roberto

Hi,

Just curious...what's the price of that system? I am asking since a friend is looking for a new system and this might be something for him.

Thanks for letting me know.

NEW COMPUTER

Post  sspclud777 on Fri Sep 18, 2009 12:56 am

This new computer cost around $1280 with tax (US dollars). It is mighty powerful.
The quad core has 8 processors and I watch them cycle from 1 - 8 as I play on
the Omnisphere. Only a few percents show up for CPU usage. So it handles the
Omni real well. Comparing this new one with my old single core Dell, there is no
comparison. The sounds load up super fast. I also set up the video card so it is
a dual monitor system. I had the other monitor from the old Dell so I said 'why
not just make it a dual system'. This way I slide Omnisphere and effects and other
plugins to the right monitor and have the left for my host sequencer (Sonar).

Thanks for asking ....hope this helps.
Sincerely
Roberto

Thanks for the info.

And I too work with a dual monitor setup the way you do...it's great to have the project screen on the left and the softsynths
on the right.

Heey!

Is it the new Windows 7 you are using on you new computer? I use Vista 64-bit and omnisphere freezes almost every time i use it! ( only if i have like more than 4-7 omnisphere sounds in a project!)

by the way im using almost the same things in my computer only different is that I have 6 Gb Ram!

Tell me more when you try it out if it freezes anything for you!!

I'm just about to build a new quad-core DDR3 machine myself and I have a few concerns.

I'm currently running my Omnisphere on a Windows 32-bit XP Pro machine. Will I be able to run the same edition of Omnisphere on a new Windows 64-bit XP Pro machine ? My 32-bit version is 1.1.4c . Can I just install onto the new machine from my original Omnisphere v.1 disc and upgrade online ?
