Two NEW songs, two genres, one day...

Post  darren on Sun Nov 29, 2009 5:37 pm

Friends:

Id love for you to listen to my two most recent pieces, FLY (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=1295760), and CONTAIN (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=1295745). I posted them both today and they are available for free D/L for a limited time (so those that cant stream WMA can hear them).

(These are my fourth and fifth songs since switching to Cubase.)

FLY is very similar to CURVE (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=1275062) in style. (CURVE was my first jump from more alternative/trip-hop style music into something with a more popular sound and it got so much positive feedback I was compelled to continue to work in that genre.) It features the same violinist, Stephen Provine, this time playing several overlapping violin parts.

Backing instrumentation from Halion Symphonic Orchestra, Halion One, and Omnisphere.

CONTAIN is from my old Trip-Hop playbook, blending sampled soundtracks, found sound, a driving crispy drum groove and a whole lot of evil sounding distortion that makes the Omnisphere Theremin sound almost like an electric guitar.

Im still liking the close vocals sound that I have been using since CLEAR (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=1247743) with lots of compression, close to the mic singing, and almost no reverb.

Hope you enjoy the tunes!

Cool stuff Darren.
Love the combi of your voice and the drums.
If i could make any suggestion it would be to replace the violin sound in Fly with something more exotic like a chinese Erhu.
The current sample sounds almost real but only almost.....

That's pretty funny. It's actually a real violin. All of them are. Played by a symphony violinist, Stephen Provine of Seattle, WA. He played 3 overlapping tracks, which I captured with my Rode NT1.

Haha-totally funny!
I thought the vibrato gave it away because it was so pronounced in places.
So much for conditioning!

Very Happy

Still think that a more exotic sound would work better for that song.

Have you ever thought about putting your tracks up on somewhere like googesites or box.net? I'm having trouble streaming them because I don't have (or want) Windows Media Player 11 (which seems to be a requirement, if I'm to understand correctly). It would be nice, if only for me. Smile

Are there any sites that stream at high bitrates? I use acidplanet because it streams the highest quality files short of lossless. I tried ilike and myspace and the music sounds like crap after they convert it.

Usually I allow people to DL the mp3 for the first week or so. That's for mac folks who don't have a pc. For those with a pc, running wmp is no biggie. In fact it's part of the OS in the USA and should really be on every PC even just so you have the ability to play WMA/WMV.
