Control Omnisphere from Roland RD700sx?

Post  randallpatrickc on Sat Mar 29, 2014 6:48 am

Hello - Newbie to OS here - I'm a worship leader in SW Florida - use Ableton as an integral part of our sets. Just saved up for OS and am blown away with the sounds. I'd like to be able to control relative volume of say 4 instruments from my stage piano:

My Roland RD700sx stage piano has four sliders that when "External" is selected, output MIDI channel volume control msgs
For example, using the first 2 sliders:
06:34:05.098 From Port 8 Control 1 Channel Volume (coarse) 13
06:34:05.146 From Port 8 Control 1 Channel Volume (coarse) 3
06:34:05.194 From Port 8 Control 1 Channel Volume (coarse) 0
06:34:05.608 From Port 8 Control 2 Channel Volume (coarse) 7
06:34:05.656 From Port 8 Control 2 Channel Volume (coarse) 23
06:34:05.704 From Port 8 Control 2 Channel Volume (coarse) 40
06:34:05.752 From Port 8 Control 2 Channel Volume (coarse) 58
The port 8 is the port on my midi hub the Roland is connected to.

I thought, aha (after watching the great videos), I can just go to OS Multi/Live, select a volume slider in the mixer, rt click, MIDI CC learn and wiggle a slider.
This worked fine for the first instrument - Omni mapped it and it controlled the volume fine.
I move on to the second (set to Ch2, o/p B default) and do the same, but wiggling the 2nd slider also moves the first instrument that I just set.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Hopefully yours,
Patrick (who is still getting knocked over by this incredible instrument)
